Garry Gibson, Head of Operations at JET Cooper Brothers in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, got in touch with us to tell us about the admirable actions of one of his staff members when there was a lorry fire on the forecourt. The incident took place at 6.15am when operator, Marion Craig, was in the forecourt shop, preparing to open the site. As the shutters were down, she didn’t see the lorry on fire, but fortunately a passing motorist spotted it and ran into the shop to alert her.

Marion, who was the only staff member working at the time, immediately sprang into action, calling the fire brigade then the site manager. She closed the site and, with the help of the passing motorist, temporarily contained the fire until the fire brigade arrived. Once they had attended to the incident and extinguished the fire, which had been caused by an electrical fault, Marion reopened the site and continued with her shift.

“Marion’s calm and composed response meant that the fire was dealt with quickly and nobody was put at risk. We have an emergency response procedure to deal with incidents such as this, but nevertheless, we’re very proud of how well Marion managed the situation. She went above and beyond what was expected of her and is a great ambassador for the JET brand.  We’ve since presented her with a big bunch of flowers to thank her.”
