Our classic British brand fuels the 2016 Silverstone Classic…
JET has signed a further three year deal as Official Fuel Sponsor to the Silverstone Classic and is delighted and very proud to be part of the continued success of what is without doubt, one of the world’s biggest and best classic motor racing festivals.
We review this summer’s action packed weekend and look forward to next year and beyond.
The fun-fuelled weekend of the Silverstone Classic 2016 provided spectacular classic motor racing on the world famous full Grand Prix Circuit, plus impressive track parades, infield displays from over 120 car clubs featuring more than 10,000 classic cars, plus interactive driving activities and dynamic demonstrations.
Over the past two years, the JET brand’s presence at the event has increased and the brand is prominently displayed across the racetrack, JET Village Green and on all the programme bags given away at the entrance. Add to this the JET Silverstone Six Grandstand, JET National Paddock Gantry and numerous JET sunshades, flags, parasols and giant deckchairs, and it’s clear that JET continues to be at the forefront of this exciting event.
As part of its 2016 sponsorship package, JET also took on the title sponsorship of the Super Touring Car Trophy races, which took place on both Saturday and Sunday, and was one of the highlights for the crowd.
The JET Village Green
The hugely popular JET Village Green and free Fun Fair returned due to popular demand, coupled with the exciting addition of JET’s sponsorship of the event’s iconic Big Wheel. As the sun set each day, the Big Wheel stood out against the skyline with JET blue and yellow illuminations. In addition, JET 855, the restored AEC Mammoth vintage road tanker made a welcome return. This was a popular attraction in previous years, and formed a backdrop for many a family photograph.
Other attractions that featured on this year’s JET Village Green included family entertainment, children’s rides, chill out zones, crazy golf and a range of food and drink options.
Within the 300 sq.m JET Hub, a range of activities was available for new and returning visitors. Following on from the success of last year’s multi-track, giant Scalextric track, this year JET delivered on its promise to provide even more adrenalin-filled entertainment with a linked grid of ten classic racing car simulators.
Visitors to the JET Hub settled into the cockpit of a classic racing car and sped around the Silverstone track in this virtual world, all JET branded of course. The whole race was shown on big screens so that spectators nearby could enjoy the races too, and cheer on the drivers. A podium awaited for the winners of each race, another photo opportunity!
The JET Hub also featured a chill out and play zone for the smaller children, a walk-through display of JET’s 60+ year history, as well as an outdoor garden area with views of the iconic classic cars and motorbikes as they speed past nearby around Aintree Corner and into the Wellington Straight.
Out on the Village Green, children happily received a JET activity pack, complete with an I-Spy of the event, colouring competition and word search.
JET was proud to introduce Hosé at this year’s event, our Silverstone Classic mascot in the guise of a JET pump. Hosé met with hundreds of race fans, young and old, posing for pictures throughout the weekend.
With so many activities to organise and support, and so much fun to be had, it’s not surprising that a large part of JET’s workforce volunteered to help out at this year’s event. Proudly wearing their “Classic Brand” JET shirts, they welcomed visitors across the venue and encouraged children and adults to try out the activities on offer. Over 7,000 JET branded baseball caps, were given out over the course of the weekend too, ensuring that JET was always in full view.
