Raising the roof at London’s famous Royal Albert Hall.
Eight pupils from Ridgeway School in Warwick had a once in a lifetime experience on June 14th when they were among 2000 children from choirs across the UK who raised the roof at London’s famous Royal Albert Hall.
Phillips 66 is delighted to have sponsored and performed at the ‘AC Academy Does the Royal Albert Hall’ concert at the prestigious London venue this June.
The ground-breaking concert, which was organised by Warwickshire-based music and education charity Armonico Consort in partnership with the Royal Albert Hall, saw almost 2,000 children from mainstream and special needs schools uniting to perform on stage for a night to remember. Alongside Phillips 66 as principal sponsor, the concert at the Royal Albert Hall was also generously supported by the Sampimon Trust, the Freemasons’ Grand Charity, the Alison Hillman Charitable Trust, John Horniman’s Children’s Trust and the St James’ Place Foundation.
Long term support
Phillips 66 is a long-term supporter of Armonico Consort and, over the past seven years, has helped to fund workshops, in-school choirs and even an AC Academy ‘Does Strictly’ dance event at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. One of the charity’s main aims is to nurture a love of singing and performance in young people who might otherwise not be exposed to performing arts. Thanks to the generous support of Phillips 66, events like this one go a long way towards achieving this goal as some of the schoolchildren taking part in the concert come from challenging backgrounds, including those experiencing deprivation, language barriers, learning difficulties, disabilities and complex home lives.
Life changing experiences
AC Academy is Armonico Consort’s music education programme which reaches 15,000 children every year, offering life-changing experiences through participatory music projects. By 2020, Armonico Consort aims to create 300 children’s choirs and 300 new choir leaders through its in-school Choir Creation scheme and out-of-school AC Academy Choirs, creating a singing legacy across the UK.
Phillips 66… proud to be support Armonico Consort and be part of this musical extravaganza, offering life changing experiences.
